5 days til the conference!

October 29th, 2009

This is it!

Only 5 more days until….

The Shifting Thinking Conference, Nov 3-4, 2009

(otherwise known as Acts II and III)

Whether you will be joining us in person, or following the conference via our blogs and tweets, we are thrilled to have you with us on this learning journey.

Here are a few final pieces of useful information before the curtains rise….

1. Start times and places

Day 1 (Act II) begins at Circa Theatre. Registration opens at 8.15 a.m. You will all need to take your seats in the Circa Theatre before the curtains rise at 9 a.m.

Day 2 (Act III) begins at Circa theatre.  Please be at Circa no later than 8.30 a.m because curtains rise at 8.45 a.m.  It is very important you are on time (you’ll see why on Day 2).

2. Coming directly from the airport?

If you are flying into Wellington on Tuesday morning and coming directly to Circa, we will have a small amount of space to store your bags for the day (Try to pack light!).

3. Bring your laptop and cellphones if you want to get connected!

We’d love you to share your thoughts, questions, ideas, and challenges throughout the conference by blogging and tweeting – as well as the good old-fashioned verbal medium. We’ve now sorted out our internet issues and we are pleased to announce that we will have wireless internet access in all venues. (N.B. If you see the conference team crossing their fingers, toes, and other body parts you’ll know it’s because we’re hoping the technology will  do exactly what we want it to do :)

If you don’t have a laptop or don’t want to bring one, remember you can twitter from your cellphone. If you don’t know how to set this up, see Hugh or one of our Twitter help crew in the reception area on Day 1 of the conference.

4. Follow us on Twitter, and join the Shifting Thinking online community

Remember, our Twittername is @shiftingthinkng (no final “i” in the word “thinkng”). If you follow us, we’ll follow you, which means your tweets will be visible to participants during the conference on our Twitter Feed. And if you haven’t already, why not register as a member of the Shifting Thinking online community?

5.  Start thinking about your Day 2 Breakout options

Details about each of the Day 2 (Act III) breakout sessions are now posted on the Shifting Thinking conference page (click on the titles of each strand for details). Think about which sessions interest you the most – Yes we know, it’s so hard to choose, they are all so good! You won’t have to decide exactly which sessions you are going to until Day 2, when you will meet with your learning group.

6. A special option: Ourspace@Te Papa

We are pleased to be partnering with the education team at Te Papa to offer a special optional workshop experience to Shifting Thinking conference participants – Ourspace@Te Papa: Your classroom.

The Ourspace experience will be offered once on Day 1 (as an optional session after the conference but before the”Intermission” drinks – see below).  It will also be offered twice on Day 2 during the breakout sessions. The sessions will be first-in first served, with optimal group sizes of no more than 15 people at a time.

7. Don’t forget about “Intermission” – drinks and nibbles @6p.m. on Tuesday – upstairs at Mac’s Brewery Bar  (and oh yes, the Melbourne Cup!)

This is a chance to get together in a relaxed environment to chat and mingle with conference organisers, speakers, and participants.  For catering purposes, we’ll check with you at registration on Tuesday morning to confirm whether you will be attending. The event starts at 6 pm UPSTAIRS at Mac’s Brewery Bar.

If you are keen on watching the Melbourne Cup immediately before the function, it will be screening in the public area DOWNSTAIRS at Mac’s Brewery Bar. The racing starts just after 5 p.m. so you have time to watch (and maybe win?) before you come upstairs for drinks and nibbles.

8. See you soon!
